A beginners navigation course for anyone who is looking to learn/improve route planning, who wants to feel more confident and safer when out walking and who wants to be able to follow a map without getting lost.
Anyone can read maps and plan realistic, achievable routes with just a few basic skills and a bit of know-how.
This is a fun course, based mainly outdoors, having a go and working together to develop and practice new skills. The route will be around the pretty town of Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, with the backdrop of the western Brecon Beacons. We will start and finish at the bookshop on the High St called Books at the Dragon’s Garden.
I am relatively new to navigation myself but I love practicing it and showing others that it is not just for experienced mountaineers or the military It’s for everyone.
Basic navigation skills help me plan sensible routes and get round safely, especially as I love to walk alone. I enjoy myself more and get more out of every walk by having just a bit of extra knowledge. It means I can explore further without needing others to show me.
I have delivered several navigation courses for The Outdoor Partnership alongside Welcome in the Wild and have a (NNAS) Navigation Silver Award.
