Length: 15km

Ascent: 781m

Cost: £30

This long, all-day walk is truly spectacular but not for the faint-hearted (or tight-chested..). The ascent is nearly 800m to the ‘Carmarthen Fans’, the 3 high peaks of the Black Mountain Range (Fan Foel, Picws Ddu and Fan Brycheiniog), in the less-frequented western area of Bannau Brycheiniog.

This route ascends via the main path to Llyn Y Fan Fach and then follows the base of the mountain range round to the more remote Llyn Y Fan Fawr. It then climbs up a very steep, rocky, stepped path to the top of the range and follows the Beacons Way along the ridge until it reaches a viewpoint above Llyn Y Fan Fach . From here we descend via the Beacons Way back to the car park.

Due to the nature of the terrain this walk will only go ahead in dry, clear conditions, so cancellation is possible.
